Clinical
supervision

What is it?

Clinical supervision is a space where a therapist discusses with a more experienced colleague about the cases he works with and also about the difficulties encountered in the profession.

Finding a more experienced supervisor does not necessarily mean that he has more training time than you, but that he may have more clinical experience or also be more specialized in some type of disorder or therapeutic approach.

It is a guided discovery process where the supervisee can identify which edges he needs to trim and also the best way forward with his patients. It is, above all, a space for exchange. Exchange of experiences, anxieties, difficulties but, above all, the solution of problems encountered in clinical practice.

The choice of supervisor is very individual and must be aligned with your objectives, which can be diverse, such as: difficulty in managing a specific disorder, improving your skills and competences as a therapist, training specific techniques that you have more difficulty with, increasing understanding about their patients, among others. ⁣

In this sense, the need for supervision is felt by each therapist throughout their trajectory. Some may feel this need from the beginning in the clinic, while others may seek this service even after having more training time. However, it is certainly a process that adds a lot of value to the sessions and broadens the therapist's view of his cases and of himself in this role.

How it works?

Clinical supervision can be carried out in a individual or ingroup, for professionals and future professionals who need guidance, but more than that, seek a real exchange of ideas and connections in an environment that takes them out of isolation and increases their opportunities.

The frequency of supervision depends a lot on the therapist's demand, which can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

What's included?

Clinical supervision includes case discussion, dialogued interview analysis and return, assistance in case conceptualization and supply of materials (articles, texts and instruments) that can facilitate the conduction of the follow-up of their patients.

In addition, I usually work in supervision of the therapist's own training, discussing topics related to the profession in general.

“The supervisions with Lucas were always very enlightening and of great importance for my professional growth. I always felt very comfortable and welcomed, as Lucas is a very competent professional, with a huge amount of knowledge, and he always knew how to help me with all the doubts I brought to supervision. Highly recommend!"
